Electronic Equipment, General Guidelines for
REQUIREMENTS:
1. All performance requirements and construction requirements except as modified by this
specification sheet shall be in accordance with MIL-C-13273.
* 2. Materials. All materials used in the construction of the cable assemblies should be
fungus-resistant as specified in Guideline 4 of MIL-HDBK-454.
3. Conductors. Each stranded conductor shall be equivalent to 404 circular mils (No. 24
AWG) and shall consist of 4l strands of No. 40 AWG tinned soft cadmium copper
alloy, having a l percent nominal content of cadmium. It shall be tight bunch stranded
with a lay not exceeding 0.75 inch. Prior to stranding, the elongation of individual strands shall
be not less than 10 percent and the tensile strength shall not be greater than 55,000 pounds per
square inch. After stranding, and prior to insulating, the elongation of individual strands shall not
be less than 5 percent and the tensile strength shall not be greater than 58,000 pounds per square
inch. Each conductor in the finished cord shall have a nominal DC resistance of 39.0 ohms per
1000 feet at or corrected to a temperature of 20°C.
4. Insulation. The insulation for the retractile cords shall be Type IR or Type IH rubber
compound conforming to the requirements of MIL-I-3930 and capable of meeting the
requirements specified herein.
5. Dimensions of insulated conductors. The diameter of each insulated wire stranded
conductors shall be not less than 0.057 inch nominal and shall not be greater than 0.063 inch. The
minimum wall thickness shall not be less than 0.009 inch.
6. Colors. The color of the insulation on the 4 conductors shall be black, white, red and
green.
* 7. Separators. The insulation on each conductor shall be free stripping. Separators shall
consist of a serving, knitted barrier, or a close braid of suitable material. The use of a separator is
optional.
